Electorial Fraud in Italy?

Filmmakers Beppo Cremagnani and Enrico Deaglio have published the documentary "Uccidete la democrazia" ("You kill democracy") about possible attempts at electorial fraud in Italy's April 2006 elections. The movie, which was published yesterday (11/24) on a CD-ROM accompanying Italian magazinie Diario , raises questions about irregularities in the elections which led to a surprisingly narrow defeat of media tycoon and Bush-ally Silvio Berlusconi .

There seems to be some evidence that thousands of "white votes" - invalid votes, traditionally cast by Italians as a sign of  protest - may have been counted in Berlusconi's favour. The magazine and the CD-ROM sold out in record time; no official statements regarding the filmmaker's accusations have been published yet.  Italy has a long history of corruption and conspiracies , and Silvio Berlusconi has in the past been repeatedly accused of dubious political and economical practices.

UPDATE:  While Italian media are abuzz with the video and its accusations, non-Italian media have until now remained largely ignorant of the possible scandal. In the meantime, the state attorney has decided to investigate, while Christian Democrat Interior Minister Beppe Pisanu has denied the whole story. In the documentary, Berlusconi's coalition-partner Pisanu is accused of aiding the manipulations to keep Berlusconi's Forza Italia in reign.
